I found this recipe by Judy Neil on the Internet and it is great! In the past I haven’t used much of the brand named steak sauce; only when I was making a marinade, either for Jerky or a roast. I know many people that use it for absolutely everything though and there are times if you are like me you need some and don’t have it readily available. Besides I like to have everything as much from scratch as possible. Most of these items if not all are readily available in your pantry already I would think.

Shortly I will be adding a recipe for Onions that use steak sauce – every one seems to love it. In the mean time, try this out and watch for the Grilled Onion recipe too.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 Cup chopped Onion
  • 1 T Olive oil
  • 2 T Honey
  • 1/4 Cup Beef Broth
  • 1/4 Cup Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 Cup Ruby Red grapefruit juice
  • 3 T Tomato Paste
  • 2 T Raisins
  • 2 t Garlic Powder
  • 1 1/2 t coarsely crushed Pepper
  • 3/4 t dried Thyme
  • 1/2 t Salt

Instructions

  1. In a nonstick saucepan over medium heat, cook onion in oil until tender.
  2. Add honey; cook and stir for 2 minutes.
  3. Stir in broth, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, grapefruit juice, tomato paste and vinegar until blended. Stir in the raisins, garlic powder, pepper, thyme and salt.
  4. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for about 20 minutes or until sauce is reduced to about 1-1/4 cups.
  5. Cool to room temperature.
  6. Transfer to a blender; cover and process until smooth. Cover and refrigerate. Notes and Substitutes: The Grapefruit seems to be what people might not have a substitute to try is: 2T Lime juice + 2T water If you think a little about it you usually can come up with something that will be close to what is used
