Ok ladies here it is, this is the deluxe, top of the line Ecuadorian washer! Here at the condos we have one – in fact this has been washing our clothes ever since we have been here. You can see the modern washboard, next to it is the rinse tub and you can tell by the hoses its got water that comes right to it. Now you might be asking what might be so deluxe, top scale about that washer and I can tell you the only other model they have is a rock in the river. So you can see they spared no expense on the facilities here at the condo. There is only one version of a dryer and it does not work well in the rain perhaps you have guessed what it is by now. If you haven’t its a stretched out piece of wire that you hang your clothes OVER (no pins). But I can tell you our personal operator Blanca is an expert par none and the prices you would think are a steal. Adios for now (this post dictated by Dave)

Rammed Earth House
What a busy day today and SO interesting too. Late this morning we visited a home that is what the title says made out of earth. It is stunning inside. We will load up some inside pictures onto the Ecuador Album,(here is a link “Rammed Earth Section of the Album” ). The owner is a Business man here in Cotacachi.
This is a very ancient way of building brought here from the Spaniards. We don’t have enough space to get into it here on a lot of details but…
They take a form say about a yard long and 18 inches wide and pack dirt into it until it is full. Then move along or up. There is no steel in it to support but has amazing strength even for earthquakes. Look it up on the Internet.
It is so very green – just like us
More of the Cutie
This is a little better view of the native wear. Her mother cleans things here and has been doing our laundry. She stopped by today to pickup laundry with her little girl. When her Mom said it was ok to take her picture – she got shy and didn’t want to. When the camera came out – well you see for yourself.
Quick trip to Ibarra
Thursday we went to the Dentist for a quick visit and had lunch in Ibarra. After lunch we looked around and took the bus back to Cotacachi.
Look closely at the picture…How many “minimarkets” do you need in one place? There are at least 6 in a row there now isn’t there.
Another Big adventure – for Patrice
In the morning we had a meeting with the owner of a development. His project is lots not complete houses and we took a detailed tour with him of the development. He is an American from Texas and lived here for 22 years. He has some great things going too.
Then we took another bus up to Ibarra to the Dentist. So began Patrice’s big adventure. She was in the chair for 7 hours straight. What a trooper huh. Actually we think she is through most of the work. Although we do have another appointment tomorrow.
Have you ever been to a Dentist office and had them bring you juice to drink while you are waiting? I did today while she was in the chair. It was fresh Mango juice too, very nice.
Have you ever had a Dentist send out his wife to bring someone a hot sandwich and juice after an appointment? We did today. After Patrice was done he told us to stay and when his wife arrived with the food he had us eat in his office, where is wife and 2 little girls were waiting for him to get done with work.
The Dentist and his staff are all very sweet people and very personable too.
Ok, time to get back to getting things done that we didn’t get to do today while we were at the Dentist.
That is all for today…
Quick trip to Ibarra
We decided to take the Bus, for .45 cents into Ibarra. It is about a 25 minute ride and we took the closest thing to an express of course. You can see the drivers chair in the picture. It looks like a lawn chair doesn’t it. The drive was nice and then a $1 taxi ride to the Dentist office and we were there.
Patrice was in the chair for 4 hours so we decided to just take a Taxi back, that was the usual price of $10.
We did stop at the Super Maxi (grocery store)and pick up a few things on the way back.
In the evening we did have a surprise. I made us a Chorizo skillet dinner. You know with Chorizo sauteed with onion, garlic, potatoes and some mixed veggies. So as I set the plates down…the power went out. After we got the candles out, it turned out to be just fine. Power came back at 10pm.
